Dr. Noorus Sabah Ismail Nadvi’s journey with the Qur’an began even before his birth—rooted in the vision, prayers, and lifelong devotion of his father, Qari Muhammad Ismail Zafar (RA), a scholar whose life revolved around the Qur’an, worship, and service to Islam.
In 1972, Qari Muhammad Ismail Zafar founded Madrasah Babul Uloom at Moula Ali Masjid, Kolkata—where his own father, Haji Md Yasin (RA), served as Imam and Khateeb. The institution was established with a single, sacred vision: to illuminate hearts with the Qur’an and prepare students for success in both this world and the Hereafter.
Everything that Dr. Ismail represents today is a continuation of that noble dream.
In 1980, Dr. Ismail memorised the Qur’an at Madrasah Babul Uloom. These early years laid the spiritual foundation of his life—not merely as a Hafiz-e-Qur’an, but as a soul deeply attached to the words of Allah.
His academic journey later unfolded through:
Darul Uloom Nadwatul Ulama → Aligarh Muslim University → Ph.D. (Arabic), University of Lucknow.
Yet, beyond all formal qualifications, it is the Qur’an that continues to define his identity, purpose, and mission.
For 26 uninterrupted years, Dr. Ismail authored the weekly Qur’anic tafsīr column “Farman-e-Ilahi” in Akhbar-e-Mashriq, completing a remarkable 1,262 columns—a rare and monumental scholarly contribution in South Asia.
Upon completing this historic series, Allah opened another door of service:
“Noor-e-Qur’an” — an ongoing Qur’anic reflection series dedicated to bringing Qur’anic understanding into daily life with relevance, depth, and spiritual warmth.
Across his writings, lectures, and media engagements, his message remains consistent and clear:
“Bring hearts closer to the words of Allah.”
In 2025, Dr. Ismail established Noor Qur’an Academy, envisioned as a model Qur’anic learning and da‘wah centre for the new generation.
The Academy is dedicated to:
The Academy reflects a sincere effort to present the Qur’an in a manner that is authentic, intellectual, spiritual, and contemporary.
In 2008, Dr. Ismail, along with his two brothers, founded Jibreel International School, Kolkata—a modern Islamic English-medium institution committed to harmonising faith, ethics, and academic excellence.
For over 17 years, the school has served as a living model of education rooted in values, guided by discipline, and inspired by the Qur’anic worldview.
Every column, lecture, institution, and educational initiative associated with Dr. Ismail is deeply connected to one truth:
It is the fulfilment of his father’s vision.
The extraordinary love of Allah, His Messenger ﷺ, the Qur’an, and Islamic knowledge that defined Qari Muhammad Ismail Zafar (RA) continues to inspire this lifelong mission. Any success achieved is regarded as purely Allah’s favour and mercy.
For Dr. Ismail, the Qur’an is not merely a text to be taught—it is the companion of the heart, the mirror of the soul, and the guiding light of life.
Through Noor Qur’an Academy, Jibreel International School, Madrasah Babul Uloom, and decades of Qur’anic scholarship, writing, and teaching, his prayer remains:
“May the Qur’an remain the centre of our lives,
the guide of our decisions,
and the peace of our hearts.”
